Beware of Scams!

Scam Alerts:

In April 2018, Medicare began sending new cards that do not display Social Security numbers. Medicare will finish mailing these cards by April 2019, and the time frame for delivery will depend on your state. There is no charge for the card, and Medicare will not be asking you for personal information before sending it. Once you receive your new card, destroy your old card. Call 1-800-Medicare (1-800-633-4227) to report anyone who contacts you asking for your new Medicare or Social Security Number, or threatens to cancel your health benefits if you don’t share your personal health information.

There is a nationwide phone scam with fraudsters impersonating the IRS. The callers claim to be IRS employees (and will alter their caller ID readout) and are pressuring victims to pay up. The IRS does not make unsolicited calls to people to tell them that they owe taxes or are due refunds. The IRS will typically initiate contact via mail. Call 1-800-366-4484 and file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission if you get a call.

Beware of criminals masquerading as charities. Never give out personal information over the phone and try to verify that the charitable website is legitimate.

When calling Blue Cross Blue Shield, C Plus – Customer Service – make sure you dial 1-888-417-4775. There is a phone scam connected to a phone number similar to this one. If you mistakenly dial an 800 number instead of 888 to pay your bill, you might be offered a $100 gift card in exchange for credit card information. This is a scam, so please be sure you are dialing the correct number!

There is a phone scam with fraudsters impersonating TD Ameritrade. The phone number will be 780-508-4300 and will be from Edmonton, AB. If you receive this call, please do not give them any information and notify us.
